Privacy Statement

What we do

Our principal activities are to provide a range of government services to local people and businesses by working in partnership with other local authorities and business partners. Our privacy policy covers the website of Bridgnorth District Council including those parts of the site managed and hosted by other organisations.

Providing visitors with anonymous access

You can access our homepage and browse most of the public site without first logging on using a unique personal login. The main Council website does not enable its visitors to communicate with other visitors or to post information to be accessed by others.

Automatic collection of information

Bridgnorth District Council uses Hitlist 5.7 provided by Pilot Software and Neilsen//NetRatings Market Intelligence on its website to measure and analyse visitor information. The council may use the information gained to improve its online services to its visitors.

HitList 5.7 produces information by analysing the website logfiles every day. The logfiles produced will collect various non-personal data (such as operating system from each visitor's computer). The visitor's IP address (which can be deemed to be personal data in some instances) will also be logged, but will not be used to personally identify any visitor. This information will be aggregated together into anonymous statistical data only. To enable Neilsen//NetRatings Market Intelligence to function effectively, each page of the website contains embedded code. The embedded code simply adds a uniquely referenced 1x1 pixel clear image to each page and its inclusion has no effect on the layout or functionality of the page. When you leave the site there is a ten percent probability that you will be presented with a questionnaire about your visit to the website. This questionnaire has been prepared by the Society of IT Management (Socitm) and is managed by Neilsen//NetRatings Market Intelligence service further information on the Socitm survey can be found at http://www.socitm.gov.uk. If you choose to participate in this survey the results that we receive from Neilsen//NetRatings is an aggregated view of all completed questionnaires during a time period and we cannot identify an individual from those results.  If you are asked to participate and either accept or reject the invitation then a cookie will be attempted to be dropped onto your computer.  Visitors to the council's website are not obliged to accept the cookie placed onto their computer by Neilsen//NetRatings Market Intelligence. The website will still function normally if the Neilsen//NetRatings Market Intelligence cookie is blocked/rejected.

Note: Please note that if you do accept our cookies, they will remain on your computer for ten years, unless they are manually deleted before then.

Disclosure and visitor choice

Bridgnorth District Council does not store any of the personal information captured about individuals who access the Council website - except where you have voluntarily chosen to give us your personal details via email, or when enquiring about or applying for any of our services. In the case of applications for service, the personal data you give Bridgnorth District Council will be stored in our customer relationship management software (CRM) and used for the service that you have requested and for services in the future.  The information will be held in accordance with the eight principles of the Data Protection Act and please see the section on "Access to personal data we may hold about you" for further information.

Confidentiality and security

We do not give visitors to our website the option of using a secure transmission method to send us their personal data except in instances where financial details are requested and submitted. In these cases, the secure transmission conforms to Microsoft's 128kb encryption. The Council also has a Century Web Design certificate to establish the authenticity of the site.

We have implemented security policies, rules and technical measures to protect the personal data that we have under our control from:

  • unauthorised access
  • improper use or disclosure; unauthorised modification
  • unlawful destruction or accidental loss

All our employees and data processors who have access to, and are associated with the processing of personal data, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of our visitors' personal data.
