Stray Dogs

Please contact 01746 713125 or report a stray dog online.

The Council's policy is to keep dogs seized or handed in as strays for 7 days. It will then offer them for adoption by new owners.
A kennelling fee plus £20.00 administration charge is levied on owners reclaiming their dogs. The police have a duty to accept stray dogs brought into Police Stations by members of the public and will generally retain dogs overnight until collected by the Council.
It is an offence for your dog not to have a collar and tag with your name and address on it.

Dog Barking

The Council has the power to take action against anyone who causes or permits a noise nuisance to occur. It is therefore essential that dog owners control their pet so that it does not cause a nuisance to their neighbours.

Please contact 713150 or report dog barking online.

Dog Fouling

Owners are reminded that is an offence punishable by a fine to allow dogs to foul footpaths and grass verges. You should remove any faeces deposited by your dog using poop-scoops if necessary, which are available from most pet shops.

The District Council has implemented bylaws, which make it an offence not to clean up after your dog if it fouls. This will be punishable by a fine. This bylaw also applies to most public recreation areas.

Please contact 713100 or report dog fouling online.

Remember, dog faeces invariably contains bacteria and parasites which can cause illness, especially to young children.

Bridgnorth District Community Safety Partnership and the District Council encourage dog owners to 'scoop the poop' by providing free poop scoop canisters and refill bags. The bags are available from Westgate reception, Severn Valley Country Park visitors centre, Broseley and Shifnal Community Information Points, plus tourist information centres and libraries throughout the District, alternatively you can apply online.

The Council provides red bins throughout the District where dog faeces can be deposited. If the dog bins are full call 01746 713100 or request a new dog bin online or report a problem with a dog bin online.

Full details of the relevant bylaws are available in a booklet that can be obtained from the District Council Offices and Shifnal and Broseley Community Information Points.
