Council housing - planned maintenance

We have an ongoing programme of work to improve and repair our housing stock.

The main influence in setting priorities for the planned programme of work is the need to meet the Government's target that all homes shall meet the Decent Homes Standard by the year 2010.

We must also carry out certain health and safety related inspections and work on an ongoing basis.

We have carried out an inspection of a percentage of our housing stock (this is called a stock condition survey) and more properties are being surveyed each year. This stock condition information is stored on a computer database which helps us to determine what work needs to be carried out at which properties each year.

The  Bridgnorth District Federation of Tenants' and Residents' Associations is consulted each year about the proposed programme of work and the programme is finally presented to the Council's Housing and Environment Committee for consideration and approval.

  • We are on target to meet the Government's Decent Homes targets
  • We have completed our programme to install PVCU double glazed windows
  • Other than where a tenant has made a choice not to have central heating installed, all homes now benefit from a form of controllable central heating
