Building Control

Our Building Control section is a public protection service that ensures building work satisfies the relevant requirements of the Building Regulations 2000.

It is our aim to protect building owners, users, designers and builders by providing effective, impartial technical advice.

We can offer you:

  • Pre-application customer advice.
  • Quick response to plan assessments. Initial response usually within 21 days of deposit.
  • Site inspections carried out within 24 hours of request, or the same day if request is made prior to 10am.
    You can pay a Building Control Inspection Fee invoice online.
  • Decision provided within five to eight weeks.
  • A customer focused service.
  • Local knowledge and expertise.
  • The issue of completion certificate on the satisfactory completion of your project.
  • An independent service where you can be assured of confidentiality and accountability.
  • Advice on access and facilities for persons with disabilities.

Type Approvals

The Local Authority Type Approval Confederation (LANTAC) provides developers with the opportunity to have their house types, commercial buildings or component systems approved by one Local Authority for use nationwide, thus saving valuable time and money. Partnering

Our Building Control section fully supports and actively promotes the use of partnering arrangements with architectural practices and large organisations. We offer those involved in the design and administration of schemes the opportunity to establish a strong working relationship with one Building Control Officer during the design phase, irrespective of where the project is to be built. Preliminary Consultations

This is a free service provided by our Building Control section. Time and cost savings can be achieved through the use of this service. The service can provide the following:

Agreement on basic principles of the proposal including:

  • Means of escape in the case of fire
  • Site history - ground conditions
  • Meeting at your office
  • Designated case officer
  • Development team approach or 'one stop shop'
