Journey Through Time
A series of three, large-scale, textile banners have been produced through the 'Journey Through Time' project, which has involved groups of older people working with Shrewsbury based artist Carl Jaycock and local fashion designer, Lucy Lilley.
Carl, Lead Artist on the project, was the winner of the Shrewsbury Open Art Competition in 2002 with his portrait of Charles Darwin and has exhibited his work far and wide from Birmingham and London to glamorous locations including Kuala Lumpur, Vienna, New York and Tel Aviv.
Carl worked with three groups of older people from Alveley, Bridgnorth and Shifnal between September 2002 and September 2003 to produce the banners, which combine digital imaging techniques with more traditional textile methods.
With Carl's support each group developed their own theme for their banner, relating to issues, which are relevant to older people living in Bridgnorth District today. The themes chosen are, 'Family, Friends and Seasons', 'Change to Our Area' and 'Life as a Pilgrimage'.

The project has shown that there is a need and a desire in the District for more creative activities for older people.
With this in mind we are aiming to create an Older Person's Arts Forum (suggestions for a better title on a postcard please!).
This forum will provide a range of activities in venues throughout the District on a more regular basis. If you would be interested in finding out more about this, please contact us so that we can keep you up to date.
If you have a venue, which may suitable for displaying the banners either on a temporary or more permanent basis, please contact us to discuss your ideas further.
