The Countryside Explorer

Countryside Explorer

The Countryside Explorer sets off again this year on the roads around the Severn Valley. The familiar minibus, operated by Mawley Oak of Cleobury Mortimer, and with driver Malcolm Guest at the wheel, will again be taking passengers out and about.

The Countryside Explorer is the ideal way to explore some of the most beautiful scenery in Shropshire and visit some of the many attractions in the area.

A day rover ticket will enable you to hop on and off all day and explore and discover the treasures of this secluded countryside at your own pace.

Among the deep river valleys and old oak woodlands of this undulating landscape nestle ancient hamlets and timber framed churches. Long-abandoned quarries and mines - remnants of a bygone era - lie hidden in the coppices and hollows. Walkers will love wandering along the many quiet local footpaths and exploring the rich history of Highley Sculpture Trail.

For families the Severn Valley Country Park is always a favourite and the animals and woodland trails at nearby Rays Farm Country Matters are sure to enchant the children! Likewise, the Severn Valley Railway runs through the heart of this valley, with stops at Highley, to see the New Engine House Visitor and Education Centre, and Bridgnorth.

When it's time for lunch, snacks or a hearty meal, there are many places to choose from along the route.

This year the bus will also be calling at Kinlet and the Netherton Park Homes, to ensure that everyone is able to take advantage of the service.

So hop aboard and leave the car behind.

The service, which operates until 26th October 2008, has received funding from the European Regional Development Fund, Bridgnorth District Council and Shropshire County Council.
