Active Bridgnorth

Active Bridgnorth

The Active Bridgnorth scheme was setup in 2007 to help increase the number of opportunities out in the community for people to take part in regular physical activity within the Bridgnorth District. Active Bridgnorth sessions are aimed at a variety of abilities and this largely depends on the demand for a class, for instance an introductory Yoga class was trialled in Much Wenlock and due to it's popularity this has become a regular session every Tuesday afternoon at the Priory Hall in Much Wenlock.

Specific sessions for people who do little or no physical activity may be setup and equally there can be something for people who are extremely active and would like a session to really push them physically. The key is that these sessions are put on right on peoples doorsteps i.e. in local village halls to make regular physical activity as easily accessible as possible.

The benefits of Active Bridgnorth classes for the participant include:

  • A chance to be regularly active.
  • To take part in an activity specifically aimed at your ability/level of fitness.
  • Easily accessible sessions....
  • ....that are provided at a discounted cost for a trial period to give you a chance to try it out.

The benefits of the Active Bridgnorth scheme for the instructor:

The Active Bridgnorth scheme aims to provide instructors with the support, contacts and expertise to set up community based exercise sessions. Each instructor will be provided with an Active Bridgnorth Instructor pack containing copies of physical activity readiness questionnaires (PAR-Q's), register templates, risk assessment templates, posters and fliers along with an Active Bridgnorth t-shirt.

The Active Bridgnorth scheme looks to offer the sessions to the community at a subsidised rate for a trial period of 4 - 6 weeks whilst paying the instructor a pre-agreed hourly rate to allow the session to attract a solid client base. During this time facility hire (if applicable) will also be covered along with advertising for the session. Upon the trial period coming to an end the instructor will then price the sessions at a suitable rate and rely upon income from the participants to cover the facility hire and make some sort of profit. At this point support will still be provided by the Active Bridgnorth scheme should it be required.

All interested instructors are encouraged to contact the Active Lifestyles Officer for more information on the ways in which the Active Bridgnorth scheme can assist you in setting up a new class or help with an existing class out in the community.

For more information on any of the above whether you are a potential participant or instructor please contact our Active Lifestyles Officer Mark Newman on 01746 713223 or email mnewman@bridgnorth-dc.gov.uk.
