Wesley Brook

Wesley Brook is a linear strip of land in the North of Shifnal. With access from Wheatfield Drive it is possible to walk along the Brook towards Broadway and Curriers Lane. The land is owned by Bridgnorth District Council and is considered a valuable link from the north to the centre of Shifnal town.

This area is pleasant for walkers and should be used to its full potential. During the floods this year, the path that follows the Brook was badly damaged with some area being completely eroded and washed away. These areas will be repaired in the next few weeks.

Presently, the grass is cut along this area. The nettles and other shrubs have previously been cut back to improve access and visibility of the Brook. It is important to keep this area natural, as this is what makes it such a wonderful experience for walkers.

Future Plans

Firstly, it is important that the path is repaired and its width extended to improve access for people in wheelchairs and parents with prams. This is the main priority for Bridgnorth District Council.

All in all it is hoped that the feeling created by any improvements will be a positive one and that they will not affect the natural atmosphere of the area. It is wonderful that within areas full of houses it is possible to escape any traffic and noise without having to travel for great lengths of time.

Along with fixing and improving the path through Wesley Brook the following is also hoped for:

  • Placing of benches along the brook.
  • Make entrances more inviting with signs telling visitors a little about the area and who owns it.
  • Planting along the residential fences that run the length of the site.
