Core Strategy Issues and Options Report

The Core Strategy is one of the key documents that will be produced as part of the Local Development Framework. It will set out a vision of what the area should be like in the future and will provide a strategic policy framework that will manage and guide development over the next 10 to 20 years to achieve this vision. The Core Strategy will not identify specific sites for housing, employment or other development but it may identify broad locations where development will be focused.

Issues and Options

The publication of the Issues and Options report in October 2007 for consultation was the first stage in preparing the Core Strategy and provided an opportunity to identify what the key spatial issues and problems facing the District are and how they might be addressed through the Core Strategy.

Under 8 policy themes of housing, economy and employment, town centres and retailing, community facilities and services, quality of life, environment, environmental sustainability and transport and accessibility a number of key issues were identified. For some of these, alternatives were put forward as to how the Core Strategy might tackle the issue.

Although the consultation period on the Issues and Options Report and accompanying Sustainability Appraisal (see below) has now closed the documents still available to view or download.

What Happens Next?

All the representations received during the consultation period were reported to the Council's Community Improvement Committee at their meeting on the 14th January 2008.
