The Helpline Service
Help at the touch of a button
Bridgnorth District Council Helpline Service provides reassurance and peace of mind for vulnerable people living at home.
If you live alone, are prone to falls or have recently left hospital, the service can be essential in supporting your independence.
The Service
The Helpline alarm system allows you to call for help at any time - twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, all year round. Help can be summoned at the touch of a button by depressing the pendant which is worn around the neck and it is very light and easy to use.
The service is designed to enable anyone who is medically at risk, including the elderly or disabled to live in their own home with the security of knowing someone will get help to them, should the need arise.
Supporting your independence
If you have an emergency anywhere in your home or in the garden all you have to do is press the pendant button and the staff at the call centre will be alerted. If you are near the speech box you will be able to talk to the person who answers at the call centre.
If you are unable to speak or can not be heard the operator will already know who you are and where you are and will check to make sure you are alright. If needed your family, friends or the emergency services will be called.
With this system in place you maintain your privacy and independence but are safe in the knowledge that help is at hand should you need it in an emergency.

There may be times when you wish to comment on the service you are receiving or indeed, you may wish to make an informal or formal complaint. You also have the right to see any policy that we operate and you have a right and are encouraged to give feedback on any of these policies.

Who maintains the equipment?
The cost of maintaining the equipment is included in the fee charged. In the rare event of a fault a trained technician will call at your home and repair or replace the equipment.
What do I need?
To install the Helpline unit, all that is needed is a plug in telephone socket and a 13 amp electrical socket within a short distance of one another. We can arrange the installation and once installed you will be asked to place a call to the control centre twice a year (on average) but we will remind you of when and how this is done.
You also need to supply us with details of friends or relatives for us to contact. The more contacts you have the better, however you need a minimum of two for the system to work. Ideally each contact will need to have access to your home in case of an emergency.
