After-School Sessions
TOP Play and TOP Sport are national schemes that are implemented locally through an extensive programme offering weekly coaching sessions. The aim of the programme is to enable young people to enjoy top quality sports opportunities appropriate to their age and stage of development. TOP Play offers core skills and fun sport for 4-9 year olds and TOP Sport provides coaching in a variety of sports for 7-11 year olds.
Sessions are currently run after school in many primary schools across the district. If you would like more information about After-School sessions please contact the Youth Sports Development Officers.
Coaches and Volunteers
To ensure that there are sufficient leaders and coaches to deliver programmes, and to increase the number and quality of coaches within local clubs, a coach education programme has been developed. This involves the provision of various courses and workshops throughout the year, which are accessible and affordable.
For further details on coach education courses and to see if you are eligible for a coach education subsidy please contact the Youth Sports Development Officers.
If you are interested in becoming involved in coaching, undertaking coach education/training or furthering your development as a coach in any sport please let us know.
Sports Clubs
Support can be provided to local sports clubs to increase membership, recruit new coaches and volunteers, train existing coaches and volunteers and raise funds. Particularly important is supporting clubs to achieve Clubmark Accreditation. Clubmark (or other National Governing Body of Sport equivalent accreditation) shows that a sports club offers a safe, effective, equitable and friendly environment for young people to gain sports coaching, competitive experiences and social skills. For further information about the accreditation scheme in your sport either contact the Youth Sport Development Officer or your local Governing Body Officer.
Shropshire Youth Games
The Shropshire Youth Games is held during the summer term and is a festival of sport covering over 10 sports. Teams are selected in each District in Shropshire through trials, schools festivals and competitions. The chosen team then competes for their District at the Shropshire Youth Games.
