Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy

The Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy has been formulated and adopted by the Council in response to the Regulatory Reform (Housing Assistance) (England and Wales) Order 2002. The Order repealed the existing system of Private Housing Renewal Grants from 18th July 2003 and Local Authorities were required to draw up a Policy which stated the system of financial and other assistance which they would provide in future to private householders in order to aid the repair or improvement of their properties. The Policy is divided into five Sections:

  • Section 1 covers the strategic context;
  • Section 2 covers policy priorities;
  • Section 3 covers the policy framework and the conditions attached to the assistance;
  • Section 4 covers the types of assistance available;
  • Section 5 provides general information on resources, how to make enquiries, appeals and complaints procedures.

This new policy came into effect on 1st April 2007.
