The parish church of All Saints stands supreme in the village of Claverley and makes a fitting starting point for this short walk. The route takes field paths and quiet country roads before following a delightful green lane at the end of which can be found a very peaceful wayside war memorial.

The Route

Claverley church gates (1) With your back to the church lych gate, in the centre of the village, go right up High Street - ignoring the road immediately right - to pass two of the three pubs and the post office. Take the first road right which is a continuation of High Street.
(2) When the properties end and the road bends left go right over a fence stile. Go half left and ahead across the field on a well-walked footpath. Pass through a wide gap in the facing hedge and continue forward on the same line on a gentle descent to a gate in the field corner exiting on to a lane. Claverley High Street

(3) Go right on the quiet lane which initially makes a gradual ascent. Pass Claverley cricket ground on the right. At a T-junction go left and immediately veer right on the road - ignoring the lane to Upper Farmcote and Quatt. Keep ahead on the road ignoring a stile, left.

Claverley walk byway (4) Within a short distance, at a road junction, go right on a wide hedged byway with a strip of woodland on your left. Keep this very pleasant green lane until it joins a metalled road with a wayside war memorial hidden behind a neatly trimmed hedge on your left. Go right on the lane - ignoring a continuation of the byway, left. Keep to the lane which makes a gentle descent.

(5) When the ground levels out - a short distance before a T-junction and with a cream-coloured house on the right - go left on a wide rough roadway which goes forward between fencing with the parish church over to the right. Pass through a gateway and over a cattle grid. As the roadway bends left towards a caravan park strike off right to join a track going right with a wire fence on your left. Ignore a stile, left, and go forward on the track to pass through a gateway. Go ahead a short distance and immediately before a gate into a farmyard - with a bungalow left - go right over a stile and ahead on an enclosed footpath to quickly emerge into Spicer's Close. Go left on the road and at the T-junction go right back up to the church.
