Licence - pleasure boats

Any person who wishes to be in charge of or navigate a pleasure boat/vessel for the purpose of letting it out for hire to members of the public or to be used for carrying passengers for hire, must obtain licences from the Local Authority.

Applications for Licences

Applications for licences must be made to the Bridgnorth District Council with the appropriate fee. Forms of application supplied free on request. The fee in 2005/06 is £85.00 plus boat surveyors fees.

Inspection

Applicants will be notified of the place and time at which the Council's Surveyor will examine boats.

At the time of any survey all the equipment set out below as appropriate to the class of boat shall be produced for inspection, clearly marked with the boat's name or other identifying mark.

No boat will be licensed unless it is in the Surveyor's opinion sound, carries equipment as required by the Council and is suitable for operation within such limits as shall be endorsed upon the licence.

The Surveyor may from time to time prescribe or amend standard requirements of construction and equipment appropriate to the class of boat to be licensed and the limits within which it may be operated.

Boats will be liable to 'spot' inspections at any time without notice by the Surveyor.
