Much Wenlock Leisure Centre is situated within the site  of William Brookes School and the Gaskell Recreation grounds, in the picturesque town of Much Wenlock at the Heart of Shropshire. The site based in Wenlock, forms the founding location for the home of the modern Olympic Games. Dr. William Penny Brookes a Victorian philanthropist started the Wenlock Olympian Games in 1850. Baron Pierre de Coubertin who subsequently went on to be instrumental in reviving the Olympic Games was a guest of Brookes in 1890. At this time a special Games was held in Coubertin's honour. The present day Games are held on the 2nd weekend of July each year. More details from reception.

The centre has a full range of facilities to include outside facilities for cricket, football, rugby, athletics, tennis, bowls; and inside facilities for badminton, football, basketball, archery, fencing, volleyball, gymnastics, trampolining, martial arts, and a swimming pool offering both swimming lessons and a variety of public swimming times.

The centre is open throughout the year, excluding bank holidays and Christmas. The pool is open from the beginning of March to the end of November each year.

Directions

The centre can be found ½ a mile out of the of the town of Much Wenlock on the Farley Road. We are located 10 miles from Telford, 12 miles from Shrewsbury and 9 miles from Bridgnorth. The nearest motorway is the M54 junctions 5 or 6 at Telford.
