|
Map illustrated by Amy Walford from Oldbury Wells School |
|
Start: Pay and display car park at Innage Lane, Bridgnorth, at the bottom of North Gate. Grade: Moderate. Distance: Three and a half miles. Terrain: Gently undulating on field paths some over arable land which may be cropped. Line of path not always clear on the ground. Undulating woodland path which can be slippery in parts when wet. One very short ascent on rough path. Quiet lane and pavements. Refreshments: Non en route. Map: OS Explorer 218 Wyre Forest. |
The route of this walk sets out from Bridgnorth to explore a small part of the rolling countryside to the north of this delightful hill town.
It follows field paths - some over arable land - before making the final section on a clear undulating woodland path which follows the line of the Cantern Brook bringing walkers back to the town.
The Route
(1) From the car park go right along Innage Lane, passing the fire station and then St Leonard's School, for just over a quarter of a mile. Follow the road as it bends left and becomes The Hookfield. At the junction go right along Victoria Road.
| (2) When Victoria Road ends at shops at a sharp right-hand bend go into Hook Farm Road. Take the second road right, at a grassed area, and go ahead on the roughly-surfaced Hook Farm Drive. Cross a facing stile and go ahead on an enclosed footpath. Cross another stile and go right on the field right-hand boundary, keeping hedge on your right. Continue ahead on the field boundary with Hook Farm to the right. | ![]() |
(3) Cross a stile in the corner and - if a path has not been marked out on the ground - go half left on the definitive line and forward in a straight line across the arable field to the facing high hedge. (If the route is obstructed by a crop it might be easier to go left and walk around the field boundary). At the hedgeline go left and ahead on field edge to a stile a few yards left of the corner adjacent double gates and exit on to a lane. Go right on the road for about a quarter of a mile.

(4) Go right on the metalled driveway to Kingsley Farm. On the approach to the farmyard, opposite a house, go right on a signed footpath through a gateway. Go ahead down the field - a camping site - keeping to the right-hand boundary, ignoring the stile on the right. Pass through a corner gateway and continue forward down to a footbridge in the bottom right-hand corner. |
| (6) Go right on the boundary walking two sides of the field to find a concealed double stile and footbridge in the second corner. Go forward on right-hand edge to another hidden stile in field corner. Cross and go ahead on clear undulating footpath through woodland, ignoring paths off, with the Cantern Brook down to the right. The meandering route passes over three small plank bridges. When the path drops down to the brook go left up the bank to continue on the clear woodland route which eventually arrives at a footbridge. | ![]() |
(7) Cross the bridge and go left up the rough steep bank - ignoring footpath left - to emerge at a grassed area opposite houses. Go left to walk along the bottom edge of the grassed area to continue the woodland path - now running along the rear of houses. Ignore path, right, up to the road and continue downhill. Ignore a stile and go down steps. Ignore a footpath, left, and go ahead on the path which bends right and goes ahead with the brook to the left.
(8) Cross a footbridge and stile and go forward along the foot of the sloping field to a stile to exit on to a road. Go right on the pavement back to the Innage Lane car park.
