Development control

Our Development Control section is responsible for processing and determining applications for development and other related consents and also for the enforcement of planning control.

Planning Permission is normally required for new building or engineering works and for most changes of use of properties.

In addition, Listed Building Consent is required for alterations to listed buildings (this can include internal works) and Conservation Area Consent for demolition within a conservation area. Advertisement Consent is required for the display of certain types of signs.

Applications for mineral extraction and waste disposal are dealt with by Shropshire County Council.

We have two area teams to process our planning applications.

One team is responsible for the northern half of the district (inc. Shifnal, Albrighton, Broseley and Much Wenlock) - contact 01746 713133.

The other team deals with the southern half (inc. Bridgnorth, Alveley, Highley and Ditton Priors) - contact 01746 713134.

If you require any further information on applications or details of listed buildings and conservation areas, please contact our Development Control administrative section on 01746 713136.

The service is also responsible for investigating possible breaches of planning control, including development carried out without planning permission or not in accordance with the approved plans or conditions attached to a permission.

For further information on enforcement, contact the Planning Enforcement Officer on 01746 713135.
