Frequently Asked Questions

Why did the Council end Door-to-Door Collection?

Collecting rent by this method was expensive and many tenants found that having to wait in for the Collector was inconvenient. There are more flexible payment options now available and the Council also has to consider the safety of its staff.

Questions about the Payment Card

Housing and Garage Rent cards

Does every tenant receive a Payment Card?

No only those tenants who request one will be sent a card. Tenants who currently, or who have asked to pay in future by Standing Order (to be replaced by Direct Debit), or who are on Full Housing Benefit and don't have to pay rent, will NOT receive a card. However if you think you will need a card please get in touch.

Are Payment Cards the same as Swipe Cards?

Yes. They are sometimes called Swipe Cards because the Cashier 'swipes' the card when you make your payment.

When did you start to use the Payment Cards?

The scheme started on the 2nd April 2007

What happens if I rent a Garage?

If you rent a garage you will receive a different coloured payment card on request and you use them in exactly the same way as the rent payment card.

How will I know if my rent is paid up to date?

We send every tenant a Rent Statement every quarter so they can see the payments they have made. We will continue to send out reminder letters and make visits if accounts fall into arrears, but you can also check your rent balance by contacting the Rent Team who will be happy to send you a Rent Statement at any time. We also suggest you keep your own record by filling in the spaces on the Payment Calendar with the date and amount you paid. You can request a rent statement here

Where can I make my payments using the Rent Card?

Payments can be made at any Post Office or Payzone outlet where you see these signs.

The Payzone outlets can be in shops and petrol stations.

You can also use the card if you pay your rent, in person, at the Council Offices.

There are many outlets in the Bridgnorth District area and details will be supplied to all tenants. There are numerous other outlets throughout the country where you can make your payments.

You can download a list of your nearest outlets.

How secure and valuable is the card?

The card has no monetary value and simply contains name and address data particular to the tenant. The worst that can happen if someone used it is that they could pay your rent for you! It does not allow anyone to access your Bank accounts and is not like a debit or credit card. However if you do lose it please let us know immediately by calling 01746 713208 and we will have it replaced within one working day.

I have seen the name allpay.net being used, who are they?

Allpay.net are the providers of the Payment Cards and administer the processing of payments made to the Council. They will send out the new cards to tenants on the Council's behalf but if you have any queries you should still contact the Council on 01746 713208.

However allpay.net have some very useful information on their website, www.allpay.net, which tenants might find helpful in using their cards. They also have details of all the payment outlets throughout the country.

Will there be any delays in my payments reaching my rent account?

Payments will be received by the Council on the next working day after you have made your payment. Tenants will therefore have to make allowances for this when they make their payment, particular at weekends, to ensure they reach us by the fortnight end date shown on the payment calendar.

What if I am experiencing problems and I cannot pay my rent?

It is very important that you do not allow your rent account to fall into arrears. Please contact us and we will make every effort to help.
