Our Commitments to Sustainability

Our vision is for Bridgnorth and surrounding areas to be a safe and sustainable, high quality, rural district for people and communities.

Sustainability is a core value in our Corporate Plan, ensuring that we undertake our own activities in a sustainable way, taking account of social, economic and environmental impacts, learning from others and setting a good example in our role as a community leader, service provider and estate manager.

As a community leader we will:

• lead by example and use our influence with partners to encourage and raise awareness of sustainable development
• provide a planning system that promotes sustainable development
• raise awareness and understanding of sustainability issues amongst employers, suppliers, contractors and the public.

As a service provider we will:

• promote sustainable development across all service areas in service plans, policies and actions
• implement a waste strategy to minimise waste and encourage recycling
• protect and enhance the natural and built environment.

As an estate manager we will:

• make efficient use of energy and resources and cut emissions through better management of buildings and transport
• implement sustainable development through procurement and local sourcing
• protect and promote biodiversity
