Play strategy
We are currently developing a Play Strategy to improve children and young people's play opportunities throughout the district.
Councillor Les Jones, our Children's Champion, said: 'We all recognise that the ability to play is essential for children's healthy development and well-being.
'As they grow up, meeting with friends, or going to the local park under their own steam is central to their developing competence.
'Being able to have fun in public spaces and participate in cultural life is one of the hallmarks of a vibrant community and the district of Bridgnorth has so much to offer.
'Unfortunately however, while our children continue to place great emphasis on having access to a range of play environments, parents and also the wider community believe that there are actually fewer opportunities for them to play naturally than ever before. Increased traffic, fear of stranger danger, and the poor quality and lack play facilities all contribute to the decline in active play.
'Bridgnorth District Council has therefore established a Play Partnership to develop a Play Strategy, that will not only drive forward improvements in children's play opportunities, but also allow the district to access a Big Lottery Fund grant of £200,000 for investment in play.'
Anyone who would like to discuss their ideas or issues around children's play can contact Simeon Packard of Urban Play Solutions, who is assisting with the project, at simeon@urbanplaysolutions.co.uk or telephone 0121 705 7731.
Alternatively, contact Carolyn Healy, District Council Countryside and Greenspace Manager, on 01746 713193 or chealy@bridgnorth-dc.gov.uk.
